Sobriety, for me, is about reclaiming my life and finding peace amidst the chaos. It’s not just about refraining from substances but about actively choosing healing, growth, and joy. Integrating Reiki and yoga into my life has deepened my connection to myself and helped me guide others toward their own balance and strength.
Embracing “One Minute at a Time”
I’ve truly embraced the idea of taking things “one minute at a time.” Healing doesn’t have to happen all at once—it’s a slow, intentional process filled with ups and downs. Looking back on my time as a “functioning mess,” I can now accept and understand that phase of my life without shame. My resilience has allowed me to embrace freedom, not just in sobriety but in living authentically.
Many people still believe I never had an issue with alcohol. I see that as a reflection of their own naivety, but I’ve learned that people will only accept what they want to accept—and that’s okay. As long as I know my truth, that’s what matters.
Surrounding Myself with the Right People
As I grow, my circle grows with me—now filled with like-minded people who prioritize healing and self-awareness, rather than those who engage in risky behaviors. Sobriety has taught me to be unapologetically myself. I don’t need to explain my journey to anyone, and not everyone has to support me. If I support myself, that’s enough.
The Ongoing Work of Healing
I’ll admit—I can be hard on myself. Sometimes I make things more difficult than they need to be. But healing is a work in progress, and I remind myself to take it “one minute at a time.”
Through deep introspection and growth, I’ve realized that self-support is powerful. My journey doesn’t require validation from others. Healing and self-awareness take time, and while it’s okay to push myself to be better, I also need to show myself kindness. Balancing self-improvement with self-compassion is key, especially during difficult moments.
The mindset of “one minute at a time” keeps everything in perspective, and for that, I am grateful.
